HEALTH COACHING- THE LATEST WELLNESS CRAZE






You may have seen the term “health coach” constantly popping up all over my social media, interviews and blogs. However, I often find when I tell someone that I’m a health coach , they have absolutely no idea what I’m talking about.

Health and wellness coaches are popping up in doctor’s offices, spas, gyms and private practices all over LA and New York and is picking up all over the west. As a health coach I do not replace a dietitian or nutritionist but rather offer services and fill gaps that doctors, nutritionists and dietitians don’t have the time or resources to fill.

My school the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, the largest nutrition school in the world, defines a health coach as “a wellness authority and supportive mentor who motivates individuals to cultivate positive health choices. Health coaches educate and support clients to achieve their health goals through lifestyle and behavior adjustments.” To put it simply, health coaches like me are highly educated guides in the fields of nutrition, wellness, bio-individuality and mentoring.


I am self-employed and my company BALANCE health & wellness conducts workshops with corporate clients ,groups as well as personalized one-on-one health coaching sessions. My topics are largely client driven and mutually thought upon between me and the client to bring about a particular change in the client’s life and to meet their health goals.


Approach

Dietary nutrition is my secondary subject and I not only focus on healthy food choices but also other non-food forms of nourishment, which may include spirituality, career, physical activity, relationships, and other lifestyle factors. Let’s define what you value most from your well-being. I will use these visions to motivate specific goals that bring you closer to where you want to be. You and me will work together to create a personalized blue print so you can reach your health goals within a reasonable time frame and actionable objectives so you know exactly what you’re working toward.


Theory

  • My theory revolves around whole foods; avoids breaking down needs to macro- and micronutrient level.Promoting several different dietary theories – tailored to the needs of each unique client.

  • I also focus on making the client realize their goals and self enact by teaching clients to eventually be self-sufficient by learning to observe the body’s response to various lifestyle and dietary modifications and choosing health-promoting behaviors that work for them on their own.


Client Relationship

  • My role does not involve diagnosing or treating; rather, assessing clients’ overall well-being while allowing clients to drive conversation and determine areas of desired focus.

  • Making general, low-risk recommendations to help clients enact basic, health-supportive modifications and habits. These recommendations might include developing strategies to incorporate more physical activity; adding in more fresh fruits and vegetables and drinking more water to crowd out sugar, processed grains, and caffeinated beverages; learn self-awareness to make the best decisions for you in any given circumstance.

  • Nurturing good relationships; identifying career aspirations and developing strategies to actualize these goals; and deepening spiritual practices through meditation, nature, or religion to enhance self-fulfillment.


Overall my profession as a health coach is all about forward thinking, a holistic approach – combining traditional health concepts with both ancient and modern practices. I have created a program that will teach you how to make lifestyle changes and new habits that you can stick to for better health, hormones and quality of life.
